Queen of Hearts

The second heart I tried was one named Queen of Hearts from Mary Konoir's book "Tatting With Visual Patterns". [It appears from Amazon that this book is no longer in print, but it may still be available from Lacy Susan.]

This one took me a bit longer than the other one, but was lots of fun to do. I am so enjoying this vintage Clark's cotton and have received considerably more than $1.50 worth of pleasure from it. I must remember to look out for this vendor the next time the quilt show comes around.

In case tatting is new to you, I ran across a YouTube video tatting demonstration. The speed varies as it slows down when she is showing the movements but then is greatly speeded up when she wants to finish a ring to show how it closes or how it looks finished.

The Queen of Hearts she made some tarts all on a summer's day;
The Knave of Hearts he stole the tarts and took them clean away.
The King of Hearts called for the tarts and beat the Knave full sore
The Knave of Hearts brought back the tarts and
vowed he'd steal no more.

isn't tatting fun? I learned years ago from some old craft books my Grandmother had lying around. I can needle tat, but prefer shuttle tatting with nice fine thread (20 or 30) Have you made doily-type projects too? or mostly just motifs? I've done a few doilies, but I am afraid to put them out after such hard work... if the Husband got BBQ sauce and/or Pepsi on them I'd really have to show restraint not to *eat* him for it! I think I might get the big one framed sometime... then there will be no worries of it getting ruined!

Nice Motifs and thread by the way!

That is some beautiful thread! I guess I'll have to go check out the YouTube lesson on tatting since I've never been able to figure it out myself. No-one in my family, that I know of, does/did it. I need to add some beautiful thread like that to my stash (not). You do pretty work.
